Save the Children exists to do just that — save children.
Mission and vision
We are the world’s leading independent organisation for children.
Our vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.
Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
Save the Children works for:
-
A world which respects and values each child.
-
A world which listens to children and learns.
-
A world where all children have hope and opportunity.
We have high ambitions for what's achievable for children - we aim to inspire dramatic change for children and to involve them in creating that change. We'd like you to get involved too.
Our values are:
Accountability – We take personal responsibility for using our resources efficiently, achieving measurable results, and being accountable to supporters, partners and, most of all, children.
Ambition – We are demanding of ourselves and our colleagues, set high goals and are committed to improving the quality of everything we do for children.
Collaboration – We respect and value each other, thrive on our diversity, and work with partners to leverage our global strength in making a difference for children.
Creativity – We are open to new ideas, embrace change, and take disciplined risks to develop sustainable solutions for and with children.
Integrity – We aspire to live the highest standards of personal honesty and behaviour; we never compromise our reputation and always act in the best interests of children.

Save the Children Denmark
'Red Barnet' is the Danish name for Save the Children Denmark - a member of Save the Children International. We seek out the most marginalized children, wherever they are in the world, so that means we work in a really broad range of countries, from fragile states like Afghanistan, to developed countries like here in Denmark. We work closely with our colleagues in Save the Children International, both in our programmes with children and in our international campaigns and advocacy work.

Fighting for children's rights
Fundamental changes of attitude and behavior are vital in order to protect children from the horrors of war, poverty, exploitation and abuse. Advocacy of children's rights and needs and influencing policy-makers around the world is a vital part of Save the Children's work. We encourage our supporters to put pressure on decision makers and opinion formers to change policies and practices, locally and globally, to ensure children's rights become reality. We do our best to ensure that children's voices are heard in the media and in public campaigns.
Save the Children played a crucial part in the drawing-up of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which was completed in 1989. The recognition of children's rights is a vital part of everything that Save the Children does. Children's rights are human rights!
Children help us
Children should not be seen as a part of the problem, but rather as a key to the solution. Children's lives cannot improve without their involvement, and children have a right to participate in decisions involving their lives. Save the Children runs programs based on the active participation of children.
All wars, just or unjust, are waged against the child.
-Eglantyne Jebb, founder of Save the Children.
A global voice for children
As long as there are children in need, Save the Children will find innovative ways to help them survive and thrive. Save the Children is growing and strengthening its capability to fight for children's rights and to deliver immediate and lasting improvements worldwide.
For nearly 90 years, national Save the Children organizations have committed themselves to bring about a better world for children. Increasingly over recent years these organizations have brought together their different cultures, experience and resources to achieve greater impact in their work and provide a stronger global voice for children. |
